Other Educational Links with KEMU

In 2006, two French final medical students approached KEMCAUK to organise their electives in the KEMU. KEMCA UK owes gratitude to Professor Mahmood Shaukat in establishing mutual elective placements. The French students found this experience very valuable and gave encouraging feedback. KEMCA UK believes that this link will be very beneficial for joint collaborative work with our Alma Mater.

Dr Shahid Bashir, consultant Histopathologist, Hope Hospital Manchester has been approached in November 2007 on behalf of the KEMCA UK to act as an educational supervisor for doctorate (Ph D) students in the Pathology Department at the KEMU. The provisional agreement has been agreed which will be formalised over next few months.

Dr Naveed Anjum Malik has successfully established an academic link with KEMU and Southampton University Hospital , Southampton . He has organised a link with KEMU and Southampton Medical school (Chris Stephens, Director of Education) for arranging elective placements for third, fourth and final year medical students at KEMU, Lahore . He has also established an academic link with Prof Cliff Shearman, Dean of Surgery, Wessex and Prof of Vascular Surgery, Southampton University Hospital and Prof Mahmood Shaukat, KEMU. Dr Naveed and Prof Shearman would be visiting KEMU in October 2008 to formalise this link. It would provide opportunities for post-graduate surgical trainees to be placed at Southampton Hospital for a period of one year for higher surgical training on a mutual basis.

Dr Naveed has been involved in a dialogue with Prof Mumtaz Hasan, to establish an academic link with KEMU and various teaching hospitals in UK for Internal Medicine and related specialties over the last few years. They have made some progress but it still needs a lot more work to be done in the future.
